Mané Kite

Mané Kite School

The Expedition

500km. 3 states. 8 days.

The route

Nine days, downwind all the way.

We pick you up in Fortaleza and travel together along the coast all the way to Atins, finishing inside the Lençóis Maranhenses. You sleep in small local pousadas, eat fresh fish in the evenings, and our 4x4 follows on the sand so you only have to think about the kite.

  • The most controlled stage of the trip. We assess everyone's level and get into the rhythm of riding together. The support car follows along most of the coastline.

Want to stay longer? The expedition can always be extended, just tell us.

Beyond the kite

The kite sessions are wonderful, and so is the rest of the day.

Four small things that travel together with the kite. Pick one and read on.

01

Sunsets

Golden hour happens every evening, and after a long day on the water it tends to feel like the most important part of the day. We usually meet up on the beach, on a sand dune or at a beach bar to watch it together.

02

Food

Fresh fish brought in that morning, tapiocas with local cheese, açaí bowls, coconut water, and tropical fruits you probably won't find back home. Most of the meals are home-cooked in the pousadas and on the beach.

03

Delta

We spend a couple of days inside the Delta do Parnaíba, the third largest river delta in the world. We move between islands by boat, sleep in a private villa, and take a sunset trip to see the scarlet ibis come back to roost.

04

Culture

We travel with local drivers, eat with local families and dance forró with fishermen at the end of the night. The trip is built around the people who actually live on this coast, and that's a big part of why it feels different.

How we work

Small groups. Real places.

01

Small groups

6–7 people. Always. That's the number where the van still feels like a van and not a coach.

02

Local everything

Pousadas run by families, drivers who grew up on these sands, cooks whose moqueca has been perfected over decades.

03

No fakery

If the wind is off, we say so. If a spot is crowded, we change plans. If the moqueca is better next door, we eat next door.

04

Safety first

Radios on water. 4x4 on sand. Guide who's done the line a hundred times. You focus on riding.

Daily yoga

A yoga session every day, included in the trip.

We do one yoga session a day, and the style depends on how everyone is feeling. Sometimes it's a flowing Vinyasa, sometimes a slower Hatha, and on the days the wind has been hard on your body, a long Yin to recover.
